How the Race Works: Kim’s 5K Fundraising Relay

Building Your Team

Building Your Team

  • Each team is led by a captain who recruits a runner and sets both running and fundraising goals. The captain motivates the runner to give their best—both on race day and in their fundraising efforts.

The 5K Track

  • Relay Rules: This isn’t your typical 5K race! You can run it alone or you can combine runners to come together to complete the 5k distance (about 3.1 miles) as a group. Each team can break up the distance in a way that works best for them. For example:

    • 3 Runners: Each person runs about 1 mile

    • 2 Runners: Each person runs 1.5 Miles, with one person covering a bit more to complete the full 5k.

    • 1 Runner: That person runs 3.1 miles (the full 5k)!

  • The flexible format allows people of all readiness levels to participate while ensuring everyone contributes toward the goal.

Race Day Flow

On race day, teams gather at the start line. Here’s how it goes:

  • The first runner starts the race, covering their portion of the 5K.

  • After finishing their leg, the runner passes a baton (symbolic or real) to the next teammate.

  • This continues until the last runner crosses the finish line, completing the full 5 kilometers.

Throughout the relay, the focus is on teamwork and community spirit—everyone plays a role in making the race a success!

The Finish Line Celebration

After the last runner crosses the finish line, everyone gathers for a celebration. We’ll recognize top fundraisers, celebrate personal and team achievements, and enjoy a community event filled with joy, food, and gratitude.

Why It Matters

This race is more than a physical challenge—it’s a way to unite our community in support of Kim. Every step, every donation, and every cheer makes a difference in helping her get the treatment she needs.
